Ruth L. Schwartz, Ph.D., is a lifelong explorer of consciousness, creativity and healing. She holds a Ph.D. in Transpersonal Psychology, is a Board-certified Clinical Hypnotherapist, and has extensive training in shamanism, energy medicine, Inner Relationship Focusing, and other transformational tools.
From these sources, Ruth developed her own healing modality, HeartMind Integration, and has worked with clients both in-person and by phone/Skype since 2003. Ruth has also offered over 100 workshops in the SF Bay Area and nationally and internationally.
As a healer, Ruth is compassionate, incisive, empowering and no-bullshit. People are often surprised by how quickly she "gets" them, and by her ability to serve as as a kind of spiritual antenna, enabling them to make stronger contact with their own inner guides or higher sources. Ruth says, "I love supporting people, but my aim is ultimately to empower you to work more with your own guides. They're available to you for free, 24/7, so once you learn how to work with them effectively, you can do so much more!"
As a teacher, Ruth is described as warm, grounded, non-dogmatic and a powerful holder of space. Participants tend to bond deeply in her classes, and often find they can access their guides more powerfully in a group than alone. Ruth says, "I integrate right- and left-brain ways of knowing, because both are essential to me. I also strive to get out of the way, to give more room to the amazing non-physical beings who work through me. They are the source of the real magic and wisdom. But because I'm a human being facing my own human challenges, I can help the guides reach people more fully."
Ruth also holds an M.F.A. in Creative
And then there are a few other parts of Ruth's life...
Ruth holds an M.F.A. in Creative Writing, has published eight books, and has taught at numerous colleges and universities, including Mills College, California State University-Fresno, Cleveland State University, Goddard College and elsewhere. Currently she teaches in the low-residency M.F.A. program at Ashland University.
Ruth is also deeply involved in the field of dating, relationship and sexuality coaching. She is the co-founder of Conscious Girlfriend, which provides conscious dating and relationship resources to help lesbians and queer people date wisely and love well. She has trained as a coach with Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks, authors of Conscious Loving and many other books. And, she's currently training in Somatica, an exciting, experiential modality for sex and relationship coaches.
Ruth's previous work experience includes 10 years as an AIDS educator, both at the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and internationally in Africa and the Caribbean. She is also fluent in Spanish. In the past year, she has spent time in Guatemala, Mexico and Bali.
On a personal level, Ruth's life has been informed by trauma and illness. She says, "Two of my closest relatives are mentally ill addicts. And two out of my four serious relationships have been with people with life-threatening illnesses. I donated a kidney to a partner in 1995. More recently, I've had my own journey with chronic illness, though I am 80% recovered. My human self certainly would never have chosen any of these experiences, but I have learned a great deal from all of them."
On a larger level, Ruth says, "Humanity clearly faces many crises right now, most of our own making. I really think we're heading to the 'Evolve or die' brink. I'm not sure which one we'll choose - but I know my spirit chose to be here in order to try to help. And in a day-to-day way, I am still optimistic, and find many sources of joy and meaning. That's why I do the work I do."
